I live and work from a home-based studio in Ararat . My studio is part of what used to be stables for the local baker's horses in 1926, it is a rambling old building clad in corrugated iron and my husband's pottery studio takes up the largest section leaving me with a small area which actually suits me well.
My studio is my quiet place where I get lost in my art work. My abstract landscapes are inspired by locations that I have visited and moments in time I have experienced. The sunrises and weather that I closely observe from level 5, Epworth Geelong during regular stays for pain management are a constant source of inspiration as is the surrounding landscape of the Grampians region where I live. Art lets me enter an inner world that’s beyond words, this is my sanctuary.
I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and sometimes my work is about the lived pain experience as often reflected in the titles. To find out more about my life and how art plays a huge role in navigating my days go to My CRPS Story on this website.
My Processes
My monoprints and monotypes are usually multi-plate prints and often have up to 5 runs through the press to build up rich overlays of colour. My processes involve a degree of risk taking and it is this sense of experimentation that keeps the work alive and the process exciting for me. I use copper, aluminum or plastic plates which I engrave or scratch into with various sharp tools, I often add carborundum in areas for texture and depth. I use Charbonnel Aqua Wash oil-based etching inks and the juxtaposition of colours is a constant fascination.
